Smokey Community Center (Ski Cape Smokey)
Smokey Community Center, previously known as Ski Cape Smokey, is a non profit society with a mandate to provide Cultural and Recreational activities to local residents and visitors.
They are presently working on partnerships to provide a wide variety of activities at their location.
If you are interested in partnering with the society please feel free to contact them.
In 2011, they provided recreational skiing for the first time in five years.
After Hundreds of hours of volunteer work they were successful in seeing the POMA lift in operation, providing access to half the mountain. Mother Nature cooperated and they were fortunate to have excellent skiing conditions for February & March. Many visitors hiked to the top of the mountain to claim first tracks in the natural untouched powder snow.
This experience was noted by some visitors as the highlight of their skiing visit.
In 2012, they once again strived to provide such experiences, opening February 24th.
During 2011, they hosted two entertainment events. In August, they hosted the “Gordie Sampson’s 2nd Annual Songcamp Song Circle” featuring many of Nova Scotia’s young and upcoming performers. They are looking forward to once again hosting this amazing show in 2012. Also, in Dec 2011, they hosted Max MacDonald’s “Rural Music Tour” featuring J.P. Cormier and the Elliot Brothers.
These two events form the foundations of many more entertainment events in the following years, keep an eye out for future announcements.
