All participants are required to sign a waiver of responsibility. Children 16 years and under must have signed parental consent/waiver of responsibility. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult … When you submit a pledge of at least $10.00, you will be presented with your official 2012 “Going the Distance for Diabetes” T-Shirt. Every $10.00 raised will entitle you to an extra prize ballot. The more you collect, the better your chances. Any amount of money raised will be greatly appreciated. THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE Rest stops will be clearly marked along the route and will be furnished with snack food (fresh fruit, trail mix, juice or water). Support vehicles will be on route throughout the event to pick up participants who require assistance or who cannot finish the route due to physical or mechanical problems. ALL CYCLISTS MUST WEAR A HELMET It is recommended that each person carry some form of ID and a cell phone in the case of an emergency How do I collect pledges? When you register as a participant you will receive a pledge sheet on which to keep track of your pledges. Ask family, friends, clients, co-workers, neighbors…. anyone and everyone….your doctor, dentist, mechanic, entrepreneur, teacher. Be Optimistic & Enthusiastic .. Committed to the cause. This is a fun event designed to accommodate any individual who wishes to participate. It is not timed. Travel the route with a group (single file) of friends and enjoy an unforgettable day! JOIN US ON Sunday, June 10th, 2012 FOR A DAY OF FUN WHILE SUPPORTING THE CANADIAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION RESEARCH CYCLISTS – WALKERS- JOGGERS and BIKE RODEO, BIKE SAFETY and BIKE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS “A Bike Rodeo and a Bike Safety and Bike Maintenance” program will be offered at the Northside Community Center beginning at 10:30am. Children and their parents are encouraged to come for a day of fun and learning. “Experienced Cyclists” – Leave Northside Community Center, proceed along Jonhnson Road, turn left on to Georges River Road. Take the right at Hacket’s Dairy and continue on Long Island Road for another 12 km. At junction of Grand Narrows Hwy, turn left and climb up and over Barrachois Mountain to the junction of Scotch Lake Rd. Turn left onto the Scotch Lake Road and return to Community Centre for a total distance of approximately 40km. “ Intermediate Cyclists” – Leave Northside Community Center, proceed along Jonhnson Road, turn left on to Georges River Road. At Hacket’s Dairy continue straight ahead on Scotch Lake Road for another 8 km. Turn around at junction of Grand Narrows Highway and pedal back along the Scotch Lake Road to Community Centre for a total distance of approximately 32 km. “Novice” Cyclists” – Leave Northside Community Center, proceed along Jonhnson Road, turn left on to Georges River Road. The turnaround point is Hacket’s Dairy and return to Community Centre for a total distance of approximately 17 km “Walkers and Joggers” – There will be two routes within the town of North Sydney of approximately 5km and 10 km. These will be “guided walks” as directed by the leaders of the “Cape Breton Island Hoppers Walking Club”. For those individuals who want an introduction to walking there will be guided walks on the Carmen Young Walking Track adjacent to the Northside Community Center. START TIME FOR CYCLISTS – 10:00 AM START TIME FOR WALKERS, JOGGERS and RUNNERS – 10:15AM.
