6th Annual Victoria County Canada Day Weekend Physical Activity Challenge June 24 and July 1, 2017 A Success!

Thank You to Robin Stuart and all the volunteers, leaders, organizations, sponsors, partners, facility operators and service providers on contributing to another successful event in 2017, it’s greatly appreciated. We’ll see you again June 30 and July 1, 2018 for our 7th Annual Challenge!

The three events to complete the challenge were:

  1. The Englishtown Mussel Fest 5K – Held June 24, 2017 
  2. Followed by the Velo Cape Breton Cycling around St. Ann’s Bay afterwards, and
  3. The Dan MacDonald 10K in Baddeck – Held Canada Day (July 1, 2017)

HELD: Englishtown Mussel Fest 5K  – Held on June 24, 2017




This is one of the flattest and fastest 5K’s in our area, has gorgeous scenery, and you can stay afterwards for the Mussel Fest itself.  Registration was at https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=103660&owner=1  This is a CBRR points series race!  Remember to sign up for the Roadrunners if you haven’t (online at cbtrisports.com or at the race)  As well, this is event one of the Victoria County Fitness Challenge (see number 2 and number 4 below)

HELD – Velo Cape Breton’s Annual Mussel Fest Ride Around St. Ann’s Bay on June 24, 2017

Shortly after the Mussel Fest 5K, starting from the community hall.  All levels of cyclist were welcome.  Details at velocapebreton.ca  This was #2 of the Victoria County Fitness Challenge.  The ride is 40Km and non-competitive  (enjoy the scenery and all the brand new pavement with a big shoulder)

HELD – Annual Baddeck Dan MacDonald Canada Day 10K Results





Started at the Baddeck Yacht Club, register starting 8:30 am, run started 9:30 am.  Registration link is here: https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=103766&owner=1  This is the 3rd and final event in the Victoria County Fitness Challenge, and a CBRR points series race.  Plus, there is no better place to be for Canada150 than Baddeck.  (for anyone who wants to do a multisport workout, contact me about cycling there in the morning from Ross Ferry or somewhere in between)

HELD – Superhero 1.5 k Run Results on July 1st, 2017


1.5 km Run for ages 1-10. Participants must wear a superhero outfit.

Registration: Only $15 fee

Complete the Englishtown Mussel Fest Run, St. Ann’s Bay Bike Ride and the Dan MacDonald Run and you’ve achieved the 6th Annual Challenge with loads of fun, social, physical activity, refresments, etc.

The course is beautiful – about as flat as you can get in CB and following the picturesque shore of St. Ann’s Bay. Commencing at the St. Marks Presbyterian Church and proceeding 2.5 km towards the ferry down the Black Head Road and back. Ride starts at noon. Racers and Walkers register 8:30 AM. Festival ends at 6:00PM. It’s a blast to get out and run in a beautiful part of Cape Breton and afterwards join in on the fun of the festival with seafood and music.

Participants crossed running and cycling off their ParticipACTION 150 Play List and had a chance to win ParticipACTION 150 Play List Swag!
