Bras D’Or Archers Association

We will be wrapping up our season at the Baddeck Curling Club on Sunday October 15th.  On that day we will have some snacks, games, and prizes for participants. Come out and join in the fun and share with your kids and kids can share with their parents and friends. I recall Scott MacDonald winning the “William Tell” competition last year by shooting the apple off the head of a foam target – he won 5 lbs of McIntosh apples for that effort.

EXPERIENCE THE THRILL OF CONQUERING THE CABOT TRAIL

The Cabot Trail was named one of the Ten Best Biking Trips in Canada! Are you planning a trip to Cape Breton this year? Bring your bicycle! Lots of great trails around too! http://ow.ly/ITUqo

http://www.cyclenovascotia.ca/routes/cabot-trail/

http://cyclingmagazine.ca/sections/ridesevents/canadian-destination-cycling-nova-scotias-cabot-trail/

CycleNovaScotia_CabotTrailPamphlet2014 Named for famed navigator and explorer John Cabot, the world famous Cabot Trail is a 300 kilometre paved roadway that hugs the mountainous northern shore coastline of the Island. For most cyclists, the loop ride around the Trail begins and ends in Baddeck.

The Cape Breton Highlands National Park straddles the upper reaches of the Island, roughly 85 km north of Baddeck via the small communities of Chéticamp (on the west coast) or Ingonish (on the east coast). The road around the Trail is, for the most part, well-maintained.

Cycling – Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Cycle part or all of the Cabot Trail which, according to Lonely Planet, is one of the world’s top ten cycling destinations.

Cycling along the Cabot Trail, one of the world’s top ten cycling destinations.

Several tour companies offer supported rides and rentals.  See www.novascotia.com, www.northerncapebreton.com, www.cbisland.com and www.cabottrail.travel.

Park trails suitable for cycling are: Freshwater Lake, Clyburn ValleyBranch Pond Look-off and Salmon Pools.

Also suitable for cycling are all secondary and campground roads. Please use caution on gravel roads and trails, especially after heavy rains.

In an effort to enhance the cycling experience at Cape Breton Highlands National Park, we are beginning to designate bike lanes as work proceeds on upgrading the Cabot Trail.  Road inclines are marked in steeper areas and bike stands have been installed at several locations.

Please remember that Nova Scotia law requires cyclists of all ages to wear a helmet (on and off-road) and states that cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motorists.

HikeVictoriaHikingmapCover2015

HikingMapFINALPROOFSept152015

Please note & pay special attention to the following updates on the above Hiking Map:

#30 – Sugar Loaf Trail: The time should be 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

#19 – Money Pt Gulch Trail #19. The “old road’ is a continuation of the Money Point Road in Bay St. Lawrence. If one starts here the ‘hard’ part of the hike is climbing and descending the mountain. In the last part of the printed description mention is made of ‘bell’ in Bay Road Valley. This is a reference to the Bell Aliant building. It is a completely different way to approach the trail. The length of the hike and the difficulty are very different depending on which way you do it”.
