The program takes place in nature on or adjacent to school property and in Baddeck and Area. Provides girls grades 6-9 at Baddeck Academy the opportunity to be outdoors, enjoying our great natural, outdoor environment that we live and play in!.

The 2015 ParticipACTION Report Card on physical activity for children and youth reported that only 9% of Canadian children aged 5-17 years old are getting the 60 minutes of heart-pumping activity that they require each day.  Grades 5 and 6 students who regularly are allowed to go outside and explore unsupervised get 20% more heart-pumping activity than those who are always supervised (Ibid. 2015:)

The Goals of the Program are to:

  • Increase participants’ physical activity
  • Develop their exposure to nature and our great natural environment
  • Develop their outdoor and leadership skills
  • Foster a stronger connection with the natural world.

The Objectives of the Program Includes:

  • Be outdoors, hiking after the bell during the after school time period no matter what the weather! (It’s not the weather, it’s the way we are dressed)
  • Incorporate structured and unstructured activities including free play outdoors, outdoor skill building activities, games and nature awareness activities
