Rise & Shine Walking and Fitness Program Continuing Into The Fall

Naturally Active for Life Victoria County Since 2011 A Proud Partner of this New Program with Cape Breton Regional Library and the Baddeck Library, Benefiting Residents and Visitors. Tuesday & Thursday Morning 8 am with A Walk, Stretching, etc. with Local Leader Matthew Carmichael:

The Program is Directed at Seniors in the Surrounding Areas.

Goal is to introduce/continue a variety of physical activity in the lives of people in the area. Exercise has major benefits for older adults such as reduced risk of of heart disease, increased bone and muscle density, reduced risk of dementia, increased mental health functionality, etc.

The sessions take place twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday, 8 – 9 am), and runs for an hour.

***We’ve enjoyed it so much, in fact, that the group members are going to continue to meet and walk Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8:00 am through the Fall 2018!”

The first 30 minutes consists of outdoor walking session around the Village of Baddeck (Water St, the bay, the museum, walking track, etc.). The next 30 minutes consists of a form of resistance training and a light stretch that would address the full body. A lot of these exercises done with resistance bands. Exercises such as chair squats, overhead presses, bridges, leg lifts/extensions, etc. Matthew has resistance and body weight programs for older adults, these can be modified depending on the fitness level of the participants.

The program is a great opportunity to take in the beauty of Baddeck in the summer time, socialize with fellow participants, and improve overall health. The program is focused on the senior population, but open to anyone that wants to join in.
