Municipal Physical Activity Leadership Program
The Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture & Heritage partners with municipalities in this cost-share program to implement comprehensive local physical activity plans/strategies intended to increase participation in health enhancing physical activity. Funding is provided to increase the number of physical activity practitioners in local governments
Participating municipalities are responsible for planning, funding, implementing and evaluating their municipal action plans. These plans aim to raise awareness and increase participation in structured and unstructured physical activity. These multi-level plans are formed on participation trends, community asset mapping and consultation with public and stakeholders from various sectors
In some cases, adjacent municipalities partner to develop a common plan and share certain resources. Often the participating units have some form of a committee with professionals and volunteers from community health boards, health district authorities, school boards, schools, and various municipal departments such as tourism, economic development and recreation.
