Hike Nova Scotia & 26 host organizations (Including Naturally Active Victoria County & Hike The Highlands) across Nova Scotia partnered & offered a Winter Guided Snowshoe Hike Series in January, February & March 2016

There were over 50 hikes led by local folks and participants qualified to win “trail prizes.” Most hikes were free unless otherwise indicated in the schedule.

Due to the all rain this week the Washabuck Community Centre is rescheduling their snowshoeing event to Saturday, March 5th at 2:00 pm. Come out and have some laughs and enjoy a nice winter afternoon in the company of friends and neighbours. Everyone welcome! Pre-registration required for numbers. Please bring your own Snowshoes

Meet at the Warren’s Lake turnoff, approximately 1 km after re-entering the park after you leave Ingonish, driving northward. The turnoff is on the left, shortly after driving past the Broad Cove Campground.

This hike follows the road to Warren’s Lake – a beautiful, moonlit experience.

The White Point Snowshoe hike scheduled for this weekend – Sat. Feb. 27th has been cancelled and re-scheduled for Sat. March 12.  The Black Brook snowshoe hike which was scheduled for March 12 , will not be held as construction is taking place there in CBHNP  and there is no parking available.

Snowshoe Hike to the Southside of Beinn Bhreagh

Join Minga O’Brien & David Quimby on a guided snowshoe hike to the south side of Beinn Bhreagh to explore Sapphire Lake (Poker Dan’s Pond) and an extensive old hemlock stand. The 5 km hike will start at the top of Long Hill Road (turn south off Baddeck Bay Road toward Beinn Bhreagh; after 1.1 km take a left at the stop sign onto Long Hill Road. Continue uphill for 1.5 km). About 1/4 of this walk will be off trail. Bring snowshoes, snacks, sunglasses, water and warm outer wear. Please do not bring dogs.

Take the Cabot Trail from the Red Barn entry to MacMillan Mountain Rd. on the right and park at the end of that road. The trail takes you from MacMillan Rd. to the two Churches in Middle River. There is a free Lunch with Local Chef George Smith immediately following
