SCHEDULE 2017

CapeBretonRoadRunners2017Schedule

Athlete Update July 31, 2017

Hey Athletes – Lots of stuff coming up, but more important than anything else:

The Port Hood Tri is a longstanding event here in Cape Breton.  We were sad to lose Ingonish from the Triathlon NS race schedule this year, but Port Hood is still here.  I don’t know exactly the year of the first race, but it’s certainly been going for 20 years or more. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF REGISTRATION, THE PHT IS IN DANGER OF BEING CANCELLED. So please please – sign up ASAP and help keep this a viable event.  The registration link is at: https://raceroster.com/events/2017/10733/td-wealth-port-hood-triathlon

Remember you can do this event as part of a TEAM.  So if you don’t do all 3 sports, but want to give it a shot, let me know what part(s) you want to do and I’ll try to match you up with someone.

Today is officially the last day to guarantee your t-shirt size so the sooner you register the better.

This is a great event.  I’ve done triathlons all over Canada and in a number of other countries and this is one of the nicest courses, with great community support, and a post-race meal (included) which is second-to-none.  Come be part of things.

As well as Port Hood, there are lots of other races coming up in the next few weeks:

1) The Action Week 5-miler is coming up on the evening of August 2nd, so remember to put it in your scheduling app (we’re all about the apps now).  KIDS RUN, points series

2) Johnny Miles 5K is on August 5th

3) The Jonathan Skeete Run is (I believe) on Monday Aug 7th.  Stay tuned to FB for details.

4)  The Ross Ferry Pork Chop run is on August 19th, in the morning.  There is a KIDS RUN at this race.

5) The ever-popular Louisbourg Race Through Time is on August 19th evening.  Anyone brave enough to do the double that day?  Sign up soon if you plan to run it!!  This from race organizer Cindy Hynes:

Hi Chris,

I wanted to let you know for the CB Road Runners Club that the race committee for the “Louisbourg Race Through Time” has recently decided to cap the registration at 225 again this year due to space limitations and wanted to mention this to get the word out early to the runners. The pre-registration deadline is Monday, August 14th at midnight (after this date a $10 late fee applies) then the official closing date for online registration with Race Roster is Friday, August 18th at noon (unless we get 225 runners registered earlier than this date!).

6) Stay tuned for details, but there are preliminary plans for a Saturday off-road run and a Sunday gravel-road bike ride in the Mabou area on the weekend of Aug 26th-27th.  Not a race.  Should be a lot of fun, stay tuned to FB for details.

Don’t forget Tuesday Track continues through the summer every week at 6:30PM, Atlantic St. Field.

See you soon on the track, or at a race!

A few updates – July 17, 2017:

1)  the Around-the-Park 1-miler is tomorrow evening in Wentworth Park in Sydney.  Thanks to Allan and Lisa MacKenzie and family for making this a great annual event.  We have had runners from age 2 to age 80 complete the course.  All are welcome.  The registration link and details are at

https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=106189&owner=1#.WWNncIAlkwE.facebook

Remember sign up in advance, pay at the race.

This is a CBRR points series event!   Hope to see you there.  There is a separate start for the KIDS RUN.

NOTE THAT TUESDAY TRACK CHANGES TO WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK ONLY

2) The Action Week 5-miler is coming up on the evening of August 2nd, so remember to put it in your scheduling app (we’re all about the apps now).  KIDS RUN, points series

3) Johnny Miles 5K is on August 5th

4)  (PLEASE NOTE ONLINE SCHEDULE IS CURRENTLY INCORRECT FOR THIS, SHOWS THE WRONG DATE) The Ross Ferry Pork Chop run is on August 19th, in the morning.  There is a KIDS RUN at this race.

5) The ever-popular Louisbourg Race Through Time is on August 19th evening.  Anyone brave enough to do the double that day?  Sign up soon if you plan to run it!!  This from race organizer Cindy Hynes:

6)  Stay tuned for a couple of fun upcoming events, dates TBA.  First is the “Casual Triathlon” which consists of a bike ride to the Red Barn for mini-golf, a 1K ride to the Herring Choker for lunch, and then another 1k ride to Big Spruce for some beer sampling.  It’s the summer version of the House Crawl, although much tamer still a lot of fun.  Coming up soon, watch FB for details.

Second, there are plans for a Saturday run and a Sunday gravel-road bike ride in the Mabou area on the weekend of Aug 26th-27th.  Not a race.  Should be a lot of fun, stay tuned to FB for details.

7)  Congrats in advance to what is perhaps CB’s fittest (soon-to-be married) couple of Corey Deveaux and Stephanie Myles whose wedding is coming up this Saturday.  I’m sure they both have enough stamina to survive even wedding preparations!

See you soon at the races!

Athlete Update – June 20th 2017

Hey Athletes

Summer!!  Nice!!  And lots of upcoming events

1) This Saturday is the Englishtown Mussel Fest 5K.  This is one of the flattest and fastest 5K’s in our area, has gorgeous scenery, and you can stay afterwards for the Mussel Fest itself.  Registration is at https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=103660&owner=1  This is a CBRR points series race!  Remember to sign up for the Roadrunners if you haven’t (online at cbtrisports.com or at the race)  As well, this is event one of the Victoria County Fitness Challenge (see number 2 and number 4 below)

2) Velo CB’s annual Mussel Fest ride around St. Ann’s bay is shortly after the Mussel Fest 5K, starting from the community hall.  All levels of cyclist welcome.  Details at velocapebreton.ca  This is #2 of the Victoria County Fitness Challenge.  The ride is 40Km and non-competitive  (enjoy the scenery and all the brand new pavement with a big shoulder)

3) This Sunday we’ll be doing a fun tri to replace the missing Ingonish Triathlon.  Start time is 11AM at Dalem Lake (Bras D’Or is still too cold to swim in).  Be a little early to get your stuff on.  Bring bug spray.  Change rooms and pit toilets are there (at the provincial park accessed off St. James Road).  We’ll do the run after the swim, around Dalem on the trails (the trail is almost exactly 2.5K around, we’ll do 2 loops).  After the run we’ll head to our cottage 11493 Ross Ferry Rd. and will do the bike from here.  We are 4Km up the road, on the right.  Please park BEFORE the cottage, as we’ll be heading south along the road on bikes and don’t want to block the road past the cottage.  Bring some refreshments and a snack for afterwards if you have some time to stay and chill out.

4) The annual Baddeck Dan MacDonald Canada Day 10K starts at Baddeck Yacht Club, register starting 8:30, run start 9:30.  Registration link is here: https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=103766&owner=1  This is the 3rd and final event in the Victoria County Fitness Challenge, and a CBRR points series race.  Plus, there is no better place to be for Canada150 than Baddeck.  (for anyone who wants to do a multisport workout, contact me about cycling there in the morning from Ross Ferry or somewhere in between)

5) the Marion Bridge 10K is another CB Roadrunners points series event, on the 8th of July.  Details at cbtrisports.com under schedules tab.  This is a longtime fixture of our race series, with a challenging uphill finish and ALWAYS hot.

6) Just to put it on your radar, see below from Troy Bond about a fundraiser swim in Hfx Harbour on Sept 7th.

As usual, any questions please get in touch.  See you at the races!  Don’t forget Tuesday Track every Tuesday, rain-shine-hail-cold-hot (usually we get all in one day here in CB) at 6:30 PM, Atlantic St. Field.
