Naturally Active for Life Victoria County Since 2011 A Proud Partner of this New Program Benefiting Residents and Visitors. Tuesday & Thursday Morning 8 am with A Walk, Stretching, etc. with Local Leader Matthew Carmichael:
The program is directed at seniors in the surrounding areas. The goal is to introduce/continue a variety of physical activity in the lives of people in the area. Exercise has major benefits for older adults such as reduced risk of of heart disease, increased bone and muscle density, reduced risk of dementia, increased mental health functionality, etc.
The sessions take place twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday, 8 am-9 am), and run for an hour. The first 30 minutes consists of outdoor walking session around the Village of Baddeck (Water St, the bay, the museum, walking track, etc.). The next 30 minutes consists of a form of resistance training and a light stretch that would address the full body. A lot of these exercises done with resistance bands. Exercises such as chair squats, overhead presses, bridges, leg lifts/extensions, etc. Matthew has resistance and body weight programs for older adults, these can be modified depending on the fitness level of the participants.
The program is a great opportunity to take in the beauty of Baddeck in the summer time, socialize with fellow participants, and improve overall health. The program is focused on the senior population, but open to anyone that wants to join in. https://naturallyactivevictoriacounty.com/be-active/walking/

As snow accumulates, we switch from hiking footwear to snowshoes. Poles, water, snack and appropriate outdoor wear are always recommended. Our goal is to combine physical exercise, in beautiful local settings with friendly socializing. All hikes are guided.

Saturday Afternoon Hikes—With winter, hikers must prepare themselves with adequate outerwear; layering is a good approach. Often a trail will lead to a site exposed to winds. As well until everything freezes up, the woods are wet so boots or water-resistant footwear is important for your comfort.
